  • Absent Student Protocol

As a reminder, when your child is absent or late (because of an appointment, overslept, etc.) you need to notify the main office before 8:00 am. This can happen via email, phone call, or voice mail. The office will notify the teachers. Please also indicate what your preference is in regard to homework. (e.g. send home with brother/sister or pick up at end of the day).

  • Hats and mittens

The weather is unpredictable, but we entered the season that hats and mittens/gloves MUST be brought to school! Even if it seems nice out, Please still send hats and gloves/mittens, just in case… ;)

  • Principals Note

Greetings parents! This past week at our book fair we have been giving a special focus on the importance of encouraging reading in our families. To that end, your participation in this year’s academy book fair helped sales top $2,300 with $1000 of funds returning to our library, a smashing success, and an indicator that our students are thirsty for books, or perhaps for some it was the lollipops for sale... Regardless, as the weather cools and we begin to spend more time indoors, the fall season presents a fresh opportunity to encourage the reading of a good book. A great way to start is through a family read-aloud.

It is true that our kiddos need to do their assigned reading homework, but for very young and older children alike reading aloud as a family has significant benefits. Reading good books aloud gives parents an opportunity to become fully present with your kids and both prepare them for academic success and developing empathy and compassion through literature. Don’t know where to start? In her book, The Read-Aloud Family, and podcast “Read Aloud Revival”, author and busy mom Sara Mackenzie offers families different book lists ranging from an audience of infancy through adolescence and offers up practical strategies to make reading aloud a meaningful family ritual. Would you like a copy? We have several copies of The Read-Aloud Family available to check out in our library. Let us know and we will tuck one in your child’s backpack.

With November fast approaching we have a new calendar as well as a host of in-person events to check out including our student All Saints Day mass, vision & hearing screening, parent-teacher conferences, hot lunch, campus cleanup, and our first Home & School family movie night. Finally, don’t forget to cast your vote on Tuesday, November 8th (no school). Note that there are some very important measures on the Michigan ballot that will significantly amend the current state constitution. The Michigan Catholic Conference has provided a guide to voters in this month’s edition of focus (see here).

    May God Bless You!
