Week of October 25th
“As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”
Genesis 8:22
It’s getting cold out, time to break out the coats!
A kind reminder that it is getting colder out and we have recess time outside. Some of the kids are still coming to school with only a sweater. While we love our beautiful Indian summers here in the UP, but please check that your child is coming with their jacket. If it is a nice day we won’t make them have to wear it, but they should have a jacket from here on out.
Thank you volunteers!
We can’t be-leaf how great the school yard looks! A special thank you to our volunteers, especially 2nd and 5th grade students, for helping raking and tidying up around our campus this morning!
Bookmobile Tuesday!
We neglected to mention the bookmobile on the October school calendar, but they will be here tomorrow, October 26th! Please remind your child to return their bookmobile book so they can check out a new one.

JMJ
As October draws to a close and November begins, All Hallows Eve (Halloween), All Saints (11/1), and All Souls Days (11/2) are upon us. For some Christians, Halloween is seen as an extension of paganism to shun, but there are strong Christian origins to our modern traditions.
The history of our American customs actually have roots over the centuries in the waves of early immigrants to the United States. Those of Mexican descent still celebrate Dia de Los Muertos and “dressing up for Halloween comes from the French, jack-o'-lanterns come from the Irish, and the English begged from door to door, promising to pray for the departed loved ones of those who gave them treats in return” writes journalist Clemente Lisi (see article). Just as the holiday reminds us that heaven and hell exist, believers must caution others to never deliberately glorify evil or dabble in the occult (Deuteronomy 18).
At JPII, our students will have the opportunity to dress up in costumes on Friday. For further information on the day, see specific classroom communication from your child’s teacher. This year November 1st and 2nd are not holy days of obligation for the faithful, but as a Catholic school, we will honor and pray for those who have passed away and those loved ones they left behind.
“Pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that utterance may be given me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel” Ephesians 6:18-19
In Christ,
Michael J. Muhs

MILES for Miles
JPII is organizing a free fun run on November 13th in which we will run/walk from school to Miles’ house and back. Miles is looking forward to seeing so many of his school buddies. During this walk/run there will be the opportunity to share donations to the Sorensen family if you so wish to do. Because we know 3.3 miles can be a little far for the younger kiddos, they are welcome to ride their bikes. We just want this to be a family-friendly event and the main purpose is to show Miles we love and support him. So please come and join in a way that fits your family’s needs. We are also selling T-Shirts. If you want them for the day of the event please order at the latest this Friday the 29th.
