Week of October 18th
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Lectio Divina - Scripture-based prayer
As a Christian, have you ever feel intimidated to crack open the Bible and pray with scripture? This past August our faculty attended the Midwest Catholic Liberal Arts Conference and met a group of energetic and enthusiastic sisters from a growing religious community in Door County the Missionaries of the Word. They shared an amazing way to pray with Holy scriptures called “Lectio Divina” or Divine reading and each week their superior, Mother Mary Catherine, posts a reflection on that week’s Gospel reading. Here is a link to join the sisters in their own Lectio Devina study.
Principal’s Note
"Let us remember the past with gratitude, live the present with enthusiasm, and look forward to the future with confidence." Saint John Paul II
This week Friday, the Catholic Church honors the life and ministry of our academy namesake, Saint John Paul II. He lived in a time of deep polarization and throughout his life, he suffered much to be a servant for Christ and travel throughout the world to bring the light of the Gospel and its universal call to holiness for each of us. There is so much to share about the man who lived such a radically Christian life of service, despite experiencing the worst of fascism, communism, hatred/assassination attempts, rising atheism, scientific materialism, and Parkinson’s disease. But through it all and by the grace of God, he persevered. In our own polarized times, we too can strive, by the example of Saint John Paul II, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others, even when it is difficult. In Christ,

“Science can purify religion from error and superstition; religion can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes. Each can draw the other into a wider world, a world in which both can flourish.” For a deeper read, check out Jordan A. Haddad’s 2018 essay.
