Week of September 19th
Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.

Picture Day
This Monday is school picture day. It is also a FREE NUT Pass day so your child(ren) can dress their best for picture day!
All ordering is online trough Lakeshore and that is why you do not have a PRE-Order form that came home. you should however have gotten an email already with the notification that picture day is soon. you will receive another email with the link for ordering once the pictures are taken.
Because picture day is on Monday we are having the retake day on a Thursday so that our Pre-K Class has a chance to have their picture taken also. This will be Thursday November 3rd. If you do not want to wait that long OR is you have younger siblings not yet in school that you would like to have a picture taken also, let the office know, and we can add them to the list for the photographer to be prepared.
Principals Note
Welcome!
As we usher in Autumn we would like to formally introduce our junior high teacher, Miss. Ashley Kling (Science, Math, Theology) and Mrs. Laurel Buyarski (K-8th Art). Mrs. Buyarski previously taught art at MCC years ago and welcomes the fresh opportunity to share her love of art with our students. Miss. Kling (see introduction attached) hails all the way from Minnesota via North Dakota where she worked with students in 6th grade through high school. Miss. Kling joins Miss. Knight in our junior high preparing our students for high school and beyond!
Growing in Faith, Hope, and Charity!
During the pandemic, one of the areas we focused on was the social and emotional (SEL) health of our students. So many factors over the last years have been tough on adults, but it’s no surprise our kids were also affected by those challenges. This year we are updating our SEL program and focusing on learning and practicing the virtues. Each week as an academy we will highlight a specific virtue (good habit), what it looks like, sounds like, and ways to cultivate it as well as well known, and lesser known, Christians who truly lived a virtue in Christ. Last week we focused on the cardinal virtue of Justice and this week we will focus on the great virtue of Obedience! To learn more about the program, visit openlightmedia.com.
One Team, One Uniform
A school uniform is no different than a sports uniform. We wouldn’t send our kids to play sports without making sure they had all the right uniform pieces. Did you know that we have extra uniform polos (white, navy, red) and uniform pants/shorts and girls’ skirts/skorts available to families who need them? Collectively we are sticking to the language of our student handbook dress code and tucking in those shirt tails! There's also a more relaxed dress code for NUT pass days in the handbook on our website.
“Where is Mr. Muhs?” “Here I am!”
As some students already know, the principal’s office has traded places with the old business office. I appreciate visitors stopping by my open door off the library. Really, I do! When not in my office I can be found elsewhere, but I can be found!
Congratulations Sister Maria!
As some of our families know, a year ago our past JH teacher, Miss Rebecca Derks, discerned and entered the contemplative Dominican Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary as postulant, Sr. Rebecca. At the end of this August, on the feast of St. Augustine, she was clothed in the Dominican habit and received her religious name Sister Maria Julia of the Eucharist at the level of novice in the Dominican order. We continue to pray for her as she also keeps our school in prayer!
Introducing Miss Kling
Greetings to all Saint John Paul II Academy families, staff, and faculty,
My name is Miss Kling and I wanted to take the time at the beginning of this school year to introduce myself. I am so excited to be teaching at your school this year and I am very grateful for the privilege to do so.
I moved to the Menominee area to be closer to family who live in Escanaba, Michigan from North Dakota. It was there I taught Chemistry, Physics, Physical Science, and Anatomy & Physiology at a Catholic High School from grades 8th -12th for 2 years as a licensed teacher and ½ of a year as a student teacher in the Spring of 2020. I am the oldest in a large family of eight children; the youngest of which is 12 years old.
I spent 3 years in religious life as a Carmelite Nun and 4 months as a Missionary of Charity Sister. After I discerned that neither was my calling, I explored different medical careers and did some viral drug development lab research as a student at the University of Mary in Bismarck. I worked for a while as a certified nursing assistant in transitional, long term, cardiac, and memory care as I thought about going into nursing. However, I gradually concluded that teaching was the path that I needed to take.
I wish and pray for all the graces, mercies, and blessings that you all are in most need of during this school year. I do hope I can provide your school with a spirit of wonder and a deep love for Christ by contributing the gifts and talents, that God has graced me with, in service to you all.
Sincerely,
Miss Kling
