Week of November 29th

“Though your sins have stained you like the color red, you can become white like snow; though they are as easy to see as the color scarlet, you can become white like wool.

Isaiah 1:18

  • First Friday Mass

This Friday students (K-8th) will attend Holy Redeemer Church for First Friday Mass.

As a reminder for First Friday Mass, students wear WHITE shirts.

  • Snow gear!

Now that we have had our first real snowfall, here is a reminder to send your kids to school with snow pants, winter boots, AND gloves and hats, etc. If they do not have snow pants and boots they cannot play on the snowy or wet playground equipment and have to stay on the blacktop part of the playground during outside recess.

We also ask to remind (K-8th grade) to bring an extra pair of inside shoes, preferably sneakers for gym class. These can stay at school if you want.

  • Shop with Scrip

We have noticed a decline in scrip orders over the past year. We like to give a reminder that (K-8th grade) families are required to either raise $150 in rebate credit through the program or buy out the remaining amount by the end of the school year. With Christmas coming up it’s a great time to shop with gift cards or event give gift cards as presents.

If there are any questions or confusion around this program please come in or call the office and we will be happy to help! This really is one of the best fundraising tools out there because it comes with no cost to you at all! (It can even help you with lowering tuition next year!)

If you feel most conformable ordering via paper you can request us to send home some order forms or call the office and we will even take orders over the phone! Ordering online is also super easy and there is an app for that called “Raiseright” (If you are new at ordering online, our school code is C7LA55AF4888).

    Happy shopping!!

  • NEW Emergency alert system

We are excited to inform you that our school has purchased a new emergency notification and rapid alert system to help improve and facilitate communication with our families. Parent Alert will allow us to send out communications via Text, Email, and Voice Messages for all types of events. These alerts can be used for many reasons, but it will serve to provide us a fast and efficient way to communicate with families in case of an emergency. To ensure you are able to receive our alerts please text the keyword “START” to 22-383 from your mobile device. Any text alerts from our school will begin with “StJohnPII” and calls will show from (906) 863-3190.

A first test message was sent out today via cell phone at noon. If you did not receive anything please contact the office to check phone numbers. Thank you.

Note: Per Telephone Consumer Protection Act we have to provide all recipients the option to Opt-Out of receiving our alerts. Anytime we send out a text alert you will see “Stop to End”. If you reply “Stop” you will no longer receive our text alerts regardless of if we select you as a recipient.

  • Thanksgiving food drive

Our food drive was very successful we are so grateful to have a community that keeps on giving!

Here is a picture of the 6the grade who helped Fr Brian to move some of the food (which is mostly behind them so you cant see it but it was a lot) to our local pantry.

  • Principal’s Note

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” ― Fred Rogers

Throughout his suffering, Saint Padre Pio consistently directed fellow Christians to recognize God in all things and to desire above all things to do His will. As we try to make sense of events in a fallen world, whether that be a diagnosis of childhood cancer or the recent events in Waukesha, the timeless quote by Mr. Rogers’ urges us to always focus on the good. On behalf of our school family, I want to especially thank all who have stepped up to be helpers for the Sorensen family. Please join me in continuing to pray for healing for our 1st grader Miles as well as all families affected by illness or the loss of loved ones this holiday season.

In the busy hustle and bustle this time of year it is good to find those special opportunities that orient our hearts and minds to celebrate the birth of Jesus on Christmas. Beginning this past weekend and continuing over the next four weeks our Catholic academy will be observing the season of Advent. Whether new or old, traditions including family prayer opportunities, home Advent wreaths, community giving trees, donating to a good cause, or setting up home nativity scenes are some ways families prepare for Christmas. How are you planning to prepare for Jesus with your family?

As our families gather together this season, may we continue to grow in our own thanksgiving for all our good, true, and beautiful blessings.

  • Christmas Program 2021

After much consideration, the school has decided to do a Virtual Christmas Program similar to last year’s production. The CDC guidelines along with the number of Covid 19 cases seem to change frequently, and we have no way of knowing what the month of December will bring to our area. We feel very strongly about doing our part to keep families safe and feel that a crowded gym for a live performance would increase the possibility of exposure (and be counterproductive for all the steps we have taken so far this year to keep the children safe and our school open). The staff, including Mrs. Thornton, are working together to make a video of the Christmas Program to be posted on December 23rd. Thank you for your understanding during this unusual time.
